Sonia was one of our very first volunteers here at Shine , from the very very early days working alongside Woody , helping people find jobs and navigate the systems around searching for jobs and benefits. She was very committed to Shine and reliable – sometimes we would see her every day of the week as she helped in many capacities, or baked buns for various events.
After the pandemic, we started our Pop up Pantry and again Sonia was one of the volunteers who quickly was trained to help us with this.
Sonia was a rock for so many people, she showed her care in her actions and was generous with her time for both Shine and St Stephen’s. As her children became older she put all her training into practice and got a job caring for those with disabilities so moved on from her volunteering.
Sonia lost a battle with cancer in July, being positive and brave to the very end. We are delighted that we still see Andy her husband, Kylie her daughter, and her grandaughter in Shine most weeks. She was very much part of the extended family in Shine and we want to express our thanks for all she did. She is not forgotten.
